Good morning everyone!
A happy Friday to all of you wonderful people!
So I was reading out of this fantastic book the other day and was super interested about the beginnings of coffee and how a drink that started in one small corner of the globe became a worldwide phenomenon. It was super interesting and hopefully you enjoy.
There is a legend about how coffee was discovered and it goes like this.
In ancient Abyssinia, modern day Ethiopia, a group of goat-herders watched their flock eat a bright red cherry from a particular tree and then begin behaving very strangely. The legend said that the goats became very hyper and energetic. one of the herders took this discovery to a local monastery. The monks spread the word about this fantastic fruit after they learned it gave them energy for long hours of prayers. The spread of the knowledge of coffee took off after the monks continued to spread their new found knowledge.
Coffee began to spread into other countries over the next few decades and slowly gained in popularity. It became a cash crop in many countries such as Columbia, Indonesia, and Ethiopia. Kaffa is located in Ethiopia and is regarded by many as the birthplace of the coffee beverage and where our modern coffee derived it's name from.
Over the years, coffee has changed and evolved in regards to how we drink it, but where and how it is grown is widely unchanged.
Coffee trees now grow around the world in climates that will allow it and this beverage that started with a herd of goats and a very curious goat-herder has taken the world by storm. It has worked it's way into many peoples hearts and souls.
The world, on average, produces 9.5 million tons of coffee every year. The process that goes into the cup of coffee you are drinking is truly incredible. I am grateful every time I drink a delicious cup of coffee for all the work that went into that one beverage.
